Occupancy analytics for offices
Small sensors show when and where your desks and meeting rooms are actually used. So you can decide on refurbishments, leases and desk sharing based on numbers instead of gut feeling.
A pattern almost everyone knows
Yet space is planned and paid for the busiest day. Sources: Butlr, Gable, Basking – Office Utilization Benchmarks 2026.
The problem
Surveys and bookings show what was planned. Nobody sees what actually happens. Booked but empty rooms are the biggest blind spot.
How many desks should we plan – and which zones do we really need?
Do we renew every floor, or is less space enough?
Which ratio can each team handle without people searching for a desk every morning?
The solution
Wireless, attached with adhesive or magnets, installed in one day. The sensors only detect "occupied" or "free".
See when and where space gets tight and where it doesn't – per floor, team, zone and weekday.
Consolidate, set a sharing ratio, give up a floor: tested against the measured peak days.
An example
220 desks on three floors, measured for six months. Their question to us: do we need more space?
Measured
42 %on the busiest day
Highest simultaneous occupancy across all floors.
Calculated
117of 220 desks are enough
At a target utilisation of 80 % on the busiest day – so there is still headroom.
Decided
1 floorfreed up
Around CHF 322,000 less rent per year. No floor overflows on peak days.
Fictitious company, calculated with the scenario simulation in the thingdust dashboard.
Two ways, one sensor

Free desks and meeting rooms on the entrance screen, on phones or in the browser. No app, no login.
Live display
With less space you need a quick overview. The entrance screen shows how many desks and rooms are free on each floor right now.
The figures also made our employees more open to the shift towards more flexible workspaces.
In use since 2017 at banks, insurers, hospitals, public administrations and universities
What your employees and your IT will ask
An infrared sensor only detects movement. No images, no personal data, no names on the platform.
The sensors use their own radio network, the gateway uses mobile data. All it needs is one power socket per floor.
Sensors are attached with double-sided tape or magnets, no drilling. The battery lasts four years or more.
